Sennheiser HD 600 Review

Sennheiser HD 600 review

Our Verdict00

The Sennheiser HD 600 is an absolute treat for audiophiles who primarily engage in studio work. On the contrary, if you are looking for a causal use headset, it might not be a good choice as it lacks controls. Also, if you are looking forward to gaming purposes, it is a big no because the features and compatibility make it ideal only for audio purposes. For example- there is no microphone which is a crucial part of a gaming headset. So, if studio-level open-back headphones are what you are looking for, HD 600 might be your next favorite. There’s no denying that these headphones have been rocking the audiophiles’ market for two decades!

Sound Quality

When it comes to Sennheiser HD 600’s sound, these are some of the most incredible headphones truly engineered for audiophiles. With a vast frequency response range of 12-40,500 Hz, we cannot complain about its accuracy across frequencies. Although the overall sound profile remains flat, the mid-range is excellent with crisp and clear vocals. Also, if you are a bass lover, these headphones won’t disappoint you as they deliver consistent bass throughout frequencies. Thanks to its open-back design, which maintains consistency and an impressive soundstage. However, treble might vary slightly according to multiple user experiences.

As aforementioned, the Sennheiser HD 600 has a pretty decent soundstage due to its open-back circumaural design. Nevertheless, this design is also responsible for little to no noise isolation. That’s right; you might want to avoid using these headphones in noisy environments as it lacks ANC or any noise isolation.

Microphone

The Sennheiser HD 600 are typically wired headphones meant solely for an audiophilic experience. Therefore they don’t come with any built-in or boom mic fixtures.

Design

The headphones boast an open-back design covered with a black steel mesh to protect the drivers. Although the HD 600 features an all-plastic body, it is toughly built. In terms of overall look, there is nothing remarkable about it; however, the plastic has a speckled stone/ marble design. Currently, you can grab these in two color variants- black and blue. Furthermore, the Sennheiser HD 600 also resembles the look of Sennheiser HD 650 with a few design tweaks on the headband.

The earcups are over-ear style and large enough to cover bigger ears too. The padding on the earcups is made up of velour covered in a suede-like material, giving it a premium feel. Even the headband is padded with memory foam padding, which is ridged, providing extra comfort & fit to the user. All in all, we can say that the Sennheiser HD 600 flaunts an old-school look with a premium feel to it.

Compatibility

The HD 600 features a wired connection with a 1/8″ TRS audio cable with no in-line remote/microphone. Thus, you can use these headphones with devices like PS4, Xbox One, or PC. The headphones are also compatible with studio audio devices like analog gear, headphone amplifiers, A/V receivers, digital audio players, etc.

Connectivity

The Sennheiser HD 600 only offers a wired connection through the ¼-inch / 6.3mm stereo connector provided in the box. If you think that dangling wires will restrict your movement, it is not true with the HD 600. The audio cable is a Kevlar-reinforced OFC cable that is  3 m long to give you enough moving space as you stay connected with your audio device.

Control & Comfort

Sennheiser HD 600 is a simple open-back studio-level headphone and does not have built-in controls like most modern headsets. The main reason behind the simple design is that it is usually meant for audiophiles and studio use. The controls are generally present on the audio device rather than the headphones.

In terms of comfort, the premium velour padding on both the earcup and headband does wonders. However, many users found the clamping force of the headband to be a little more than expected. Thus, it can hinder the comfort level according to your head size. Otherwise, the HD 600 is very comfortable for short to medium hours of usage.

Warranty & Support

All Sennheiser products come with 2 years of international warranty, which covers any manufacturing defects. However, it doesn’t cover accidental or water damage.
