If you are looking for good mixed-use headphones that are equally great for gaming, the Turtle Beach Recon 200 can be your ultimate choice. Priced at just under $60, these headphones offer good quality, a microphone, and a universal 3.5 mm connection. Although there is nothing remarkable about these headphones, they do a decent job of entry-level gaming headsets and mixed usage. However, they are not quite a deal-breaker or the best option out in the market, so you might lookout for better options by investing a few more bucks.

Turtle Beach Recon 200 Key Features
This mixed usage headset features powerful amplified audio across versatile devices. All thanks to its 3.5 mm cable, which enables easy plug and play. The Turtle Beach Recon 200 can also be a decent pair of entry-level gaming headsets under budget. The rotatable ear cups and leatherette earpads make them perfect for comfortable gaming for long hours.
|Active Noise Cancellation||No|
|Frequency response||20-20000 Hz|
|Battery life||12 hours|
|Special features||Recon 200’s powerful amplified audio with Bass Boost, Surround Sound, Turtle Beach’s renowned high-sensitivity mic|
These headphones have a fairly bass-heavy sound profile, all thanks to their Bass-boost feature. However, the sound is clean and well balanced with crisp vocals. If you are not a bass lover then action-packed games can sound a bit overwhelming to you because of over-emphasized explosions and thumps. The overall frequency range handles the mids and highs quite well but the lows can be a bit underwhelming. For example, in games in Fortnite, the footsteps of enemies approaching can be quite tough to pick up during an explosion and firing rounds. Nevertheless, the sound experience, bass, and trebles might vary depending on the fit & seal on the user’s head.
In terms of noise isolation, the Turtle Beach Recon 200 does a decent job for a gaming headset. While there is no active noise cancellation function, it can block a decent amount of ambient noise because of its closed-back design. The headphones are also optimized for surround sound on Xbox to provide an immersive gaming experience. All in all, the headset sounds good, and the bass-boost feature is a real treat for bass lovers.
Just like most gaming headsets, the Turtle Beach Recon 200 also comes with a boom mic. Although the mic is not detachable, you can easily swivel it to mute it. The omnidirectional high-sensitivity microphone successfully reproduces a clear voice. So, you shouldn’t be facing any chat trouble during gaming. However, some users have experienced that a peak in T and S trebles can be too sharp at times. It does a pretty good job in a quiet room in terms of isolation but struggles to pick up clear speech in noisy environments.
The Turtle Beach Recon 200 carries a significant gaming headset look. The headset has a full-plastic body with a metal-reinforced headband. Even the headphones are covered with a faux carbon-fiber finish to stand out. Currently, the headset is available in two colors- black and white. If you prefer a more flashy look, the white variant is a better choice. The all-plastic body makes it pretty lightweight in terms of built quality, but the quality is just average. Thus we do not recommend testing even a single free-fall! To make matters worse, the audio cable is non-detachable; hence you might need to replace the whole set if it gets damaged.
The earcups are large and are padded well with memory foam; however, the fit might feel tight for some users. Also, the breathability is quite poor, making your ears sweat more and become uncomfortable after a few hours.
These headphones are a fairly versatile pair of cans due to their 3.5 mm audio jack cable. The audio jack provides you an easy plug-and-play action across devices like Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S, PS4™ Pro, PS4™ or PS5™, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, and mobile devices.
The Turtle Beach Recon 200 offers only a wired connection. Yes, you won’t get any kind of BlueTooth or USB wireless connectivity. The headphone comes with a 1.2 m long non-detachable cable with a 3.5 mm jack, making it versatile across devices. You also get a USB-A to micro-USB cable for charging. The battery life of these headphones is up to 12 hours, and it takes approximately 2 hours to charge fully.
Control & Comfort
Like most wired headsets, Turtle Beach Recon 200 offers limited controls. You can found volume controls and a power button for easy controls. In terms of comfort, the headphones are decently comfortable due to their lightweight structure and well-padded earcups. However, extended usage can be uncomfortable because the headband might feel tight, especially for bigger heads. In addition, the breathability is relatively poor, which leads to sweating and heating during long gaming sessions.
Warranty & Support
All Turtle headphones come with a 1-year manufacturing warranty.
