Our Verdict55

If a decent-sounding entry-level gaming headset under budget is what you are determined for, it might be a good pick. Also, the deep bass and excellent microphone act as the cherry on top. However, if you are a fan of robust controls, fancy features, or wireless gaming headsets, you better look for other options in the market by investing a few more bucks. Nonetheless, if you want to keep it simple for casual gaming, giving it a shot for just $25 bucks will disappoint you at all.

The Turtle Beach Recon 50X comes with a fairly decent stereo sound quality that sounds balanced across genres. Thanks to its high-quality 40 mm audio drivers. As the headset is focused on gaming, it provides a crisp and clear gaming sound experience with deep bass. That’s right; bass lovers would surely enjoy the sound profile of Turtle Beach Recon as it comes with rich bass that makes explosive and thumping sounds impactful. Unfortunately, as it’s a stereo headphone, you won’t be getting any 7.1 surround sound support.

Regarding the frequency range, it’s pretty satisfactory and gives clear low and mid ranges. But the highs may sound distorted, which is quite common in cheap headsets. Also, there is no active noise cancellation support, so it won’t provide any kind of sound isolation. Overall, regarding its price range, the sound quality of the Turtle Beach Recon 50X is suitable for a decent gaming experience without any fancy features and customization options.

It definitely lives up to the expectation of being high sensitivity because of the crystal clear audio reproduction. So yes, you can easily compare its voice quality to those who come with much-expensive headsets. Game chat voice and live streams are really smooth and clear. At such a low price range, the microphone is quite a delight to have. On top of this, it is detachable, which makes the headset comfortable as you watch a movie or munch your snacks.

As you unbox the headset, do not expect any luxury, but the flashy accents make it stand apart from other cheap headsets. You can grab them in four dual-tone variants– black-red, black-green, black-blue, and white-green. The white-green variant looks the most fancier among all; however, that’s totally subjective. In terms of its overall look, it definitely looks like a headset designed for gaming purposes. The body is mostly made of plastic, and you will see the Turtle Beach logo at the back of both the earcups. The earcups themselves hold a flat-fold design that makes them compact and travel-friendly. In addition, the headset is lightweight but not that strongly built. Well, we can’t expect robust quality materials at this price point.

The earpads are full-sized and made of foam, covered with synthetic leather. The headband is also quite sturdy and lightly padded. Although it might not offer great breathability, it feels comfortable for long hours of usage. Unfortunately, the headphones come with a non-detachable stereo cable which can be a hassle for some.

The Turtle Beach Recon 50X supports only wired connectivity and comes with a 3.5 mm stereo cable, which is non-detachable. Nevertheless, the cable is long enough to give you enough moving space, measuring up to 4 ft. Even the microphone is detachable with a 3.5 mm jack. There is no BlueTooth or USB wireless connection. All in all, the headphones are quite suitable for plug-and-play.

The Turtle Beach Recon 50X offers limited but quite intuitive controls. The stereo cable houses a small, rectangular tab that houses a volume dial and a microphone on/off switch. Unfortunately, the volume dial is quite simple and doesn’t offer any over-the-top features or functions. Also, there are no additional buttons or controls on the headphones like other gaming headsets.

In terms of comfort, the headphones are pretty lightweight, weighing just about 363 g. The earpads are also big, oval-shaped, and well padded. The headband is also padded and sits comfortably on the head; however, the headband padding is very thin and looks more like a design tweak. Because they are meant for wired gaming, indulging in activities which demand much movement is not a good idea.
